Sweet potato and chicken for baby with cauliflower and parsley in a white bowl

Sweet Potato and Chicken for Baby (7+ Months)

Sweet potato and chicken for baby was one of the simple lunches I made for my baby at 7 months, when we were adding meat to our meals. I steamed the chicken breast together with sweet potato, onion and cauliflower, added a few parsley leaves at the end and blended everything into a soft puree.

It’s an easy homemade baby lunch made with everyday ingredients, and you can adapt the texture to your baby’s feeding skills, from smooth to mashed.

Adjusting the Texture

I blended this meal smooth for my baby, but you can also mash it with a fork for more texture. If the puree is too thick, add a little water from steaming, breast milk or prepared formula. As your baby’s feeding skills develop, you can gradually leave the vegetables and chicken in small, soft pieces.

Storing Leftovers

Let the puree cool within 1–2 hours, then store it in a covered container in the fridge and use it within 24 hours. You can also freeze it in small portions for up to 1 month.

Thaw frozen portions in the fridge and use them within 24 hours. Reheat only once, until steaming hot all the way through, then let it cool before serving. Throw away any food left in your baby’s bowl after a meal.
