Sweet Potato Puree for Baby (6+ Months)
Looking for a simple sweet potato puree for baby? This easy homemade baby food recipe uses just one main ingredient and is simple to prepare when your baby is starting solids.
I prepared this sweet potato puree for my own baby during the early stages of starting solids. I blended it to the consistency that worked for my baby at the time, but you can adjust the texture to suit your baby’s feeding skills and stage of development.
A quick note: Babies develop at their own pace. The 6+ months label reflects when I introduced this recipe to my baby rather than a strict age rule. When starting solids, follow your baby’s signs of readiness and adjust the texture appropriately.

How to Make Sweet Potato Puree for Baby
Ingredients: 1 small sweet potato (or ½ of a larger sweet potato) and a little water, breast milk or prepared infant formula, as needed.
Wash and peel the sweet potato, then cut it into cubes. Steam until tender and easily pierced with a fork. Blend to your baby’s preferred consistency, adding a little water from steaming, breast milk or prepared infant formula as needed.
Adjusting the Texture
You can adjust the consistency of the sweet potato by adding a little water from steaming, breast milk or prepared infant formula. Add a small amount at a time until you reach a texture that works well for your baby.
